Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: One of Lisbeth's abilities is that she has an uncanny photographic memory. It is said that she has Asperger's Syndrome, but who really knows? She's capable of looking over documents, photos, or anything that would have information and remember it in an instance. She can remember addresses and phone numbers without the need of a pen and paper. Another one of her abilities is hacking. Lisbeth can hack into any computer system no matter how "secure" it might be. She doesn't really do it maliciously unless you've personally wronged her. She does it out of curiosity more than anything.

Lisbeth can also hold her own when it comes to confrontation. Most of the time she has been taken advantage of or beaten within an inch of her life, but she will always have that resolve to punch and bite back in order to defend herself.

Conditional: Lisbeth's dormant ability will be fire breathing which isn't a strange thing considering that she has a dragon tattoo on her left shoulder and she set her father on fire when she was 12 years old.

Weapons: None.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Lisbeth Salander was born as a twin to Agneta Sofia Sjolander. Her twin sister is Camilla Salander whom Lisbeth is no longer in contact with. It was easy to see from the start that Lisbeth had some behavioral issues. She was quiet and often kept to herself. However, if someone provoked her, she didn't mind lashing out at them. She got into many fights, especially with boys, in the school yard when she was growing up and she was always a headache to her mother even though they loved each other very much. Lisbeth also had no space for authority and that stemmed from a problem at home. Agneta had gotten pregnant by a man named Alexander Zalachenko, a man whom was a defected Russian agent who was living in Sweden comfortably under the Swedish government. Agneta was so head-over-heels in love with Zalachenko that she combined their last names - Sjolander and Zalachenko - and gave them to her twin daughters, Lisbeth and Camilla.

But Zalachenko was a terrible man despite all the love Agneta gave him. Lisbeth saw all the abuse - he slapped and punched Agneta on a daily basis after getting drunk. He would throw her against the wall, down the stairs, and against anything else before beating her face into a bloody pulp. Camilla hid in her room, but Lisbeth watched, the anger growing inside of her. But Agneta never did anything about the abuse. After it was over, it was Lisbeth who went to her mother to console her and care for her wounds. Camilla continued to do nothing. Then, one day, Lisbeth's anger boiled over. Zalachenko had beaten Agneta so horribly one day that she lay dying on the floor. He didn't call an ambulence as he left the Sjolander/Salander household. Lisbeth ran after him with a can of gas and matches. When he was in the car, she threw the gas on him before lighting the match and throwing that on top of him as well. Zalachenko went up in flames.

Police and rescue services were called, but they paid more attention to the bastard burning in the car than the helpless woman upstairs who was bleeding. But the policemen on the scene knew that they had a problem on their hands and her name was Lisbeth Salander. She could very well blow their cover on Zalachenko - whom was supposed to be using an alias while living in Sweden in the first place - and was a threat to national security. After her mother was put into a home due to the brain damage she received from that last beating, Lisbeth and Camilla were separated and put into the foster care system. Lisbeth had a hard time adjusting; she ran away many times and continued to show aggression, especially towards police and any other form of authority. Some of her foster fathers sexually abused her. The police kept a close eye on her since the Zalachenko incident and when her behavior became too worrisome, they took their control to another level. Through an extensive network, they had her declared incompetant, retarded, and had her thrown into St. Stefan's, a mental rehabilitation center for children. She was subjected to numerous tests such as sensory deprivation and was constantly strapped to a chair because of her violent outbursts. Lisbeth was soon released, but as a ward of the state. Her freedom was taken from her and she had to report to a guardian on a weekly basis.

However, she found an angel in her guardian, Holger Palmgren. Through his interactions with Lisbeth in St. Stefan's, he felt that being locked up wasn't going to rehabilitate her. He made a notion for her to be released from the hospital and she was, though with much hesitation. Palmgren then began to spend his days with Lisbeth. She lived with him and it was a weird situation for her. She still didn't talk much and it took awhile for Palmgren to get her to open up. Of course, they were only short answers, but it was progress nonetheless. She certainly had some abuse in the past since there was one time where she walked into his room completely naked. She must have been fourteen or fifteen at the time. When he asked her what she was doing and to put some clothes on, she looked confused. Lisbeth had once lived with an old man, when she'd run away from a foster home, who merely wanted to look at her naked. But this man didn't. Lisbeth felt like she could trust him.

Palmgren eventually began to give Lisbeth more freedoms. She controlled her own money and her visits weren't mandatory. Soon, her visits became... something she wanted. She learned to want to visit Palmgren. He was her father figure. Eventually, Lisbeth even had her own apartment and had a job with Milton Securities under Dragan Armansky. She was labeled as a coffee runner and a mail sorter, but Armansky had found out about Lisbeth's hacking abilities. He then began to put her on cases which required background checks into clients and other private investigations. Lisbeth's hacking was surely illegal, but her extensive work brought money to the company.

But one of her background checks came back to bite her in the ass. She'd researched the disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist for a man named Dirch Frode whose employer was unnamed. Lisbeth took an interest into Mikael's life because the case for which he was sued for libel against the business magnate Erik Wennerstrom seemed fishy to her. It was during this time that Palmgren suffered a massive stroke and was taken out as her guardian. A despicable man named Nils Bjurman took over and he retracted all the freedoms Palmgren had given Lisbeth. She was incensed and no one wanted to cross Lisbeth when she felt personally attacked. But it only got worse - the time she asked for money for a new laptop as hers had been broken in the subway station after a thug tried to steal it, Bjurman forced her to give him a blowjob for her pay. She had to get back at him. Thinking he would tell her to perform another blowjob, Lisbeth showed up to his place asking for money for rent. With a camera installed in the button of her satchel, she was led to the bedroom. But what she had recorded wasn't a simple blowjob - Nils sadistically raped her. He tied her to the bed. When he was finished, she was released and given the money she asked for. But Lisbeth always got her revenge.

Lisbeth went back to Bjurman's apartment under the guise that she now needed money for food. Bjurman made to apologize for what had happened the last time, but Libseth stunned him with a taser. When he woke, he was chained to the bed and the floor. She told him that she had recorded the rape and made him watch it while she shoved a metal sex toy up his rectum just as he had anally raped her. After outlining that he would give her control of her funds, that they would no longer meet, and that he would work on getting her incompetancy revoked, she had one last measure to make sure he would be kept in line. Lisbeth crudely tattooed in black ink "I AM A RAPIST PIG" on his chest and torso. That was the last contact she had with Bjurman.

In the meantime, she began to do her own research on the Wennerstrom incident, but it was disrupted when Mikael suddenly showed up on her doorstep, asking if he could come in. She was partially pissed because he stormed into her sanctuary and had kicked out her girlfriend, Miriam Wu, to discuss something important. As she cautiously had a cigarette with him, he revealed to her that he needed her help in catching a killer. She learned the gritty details of what Mikael had been working on for Swedish industry mogul Henrik Vanger in the case of his murdered niece, Harriet over 40 years ago. The numbers and names Harriet had recorded in her diary decades ago had turned out to be disturbing passages in the Book of Leviticus. But what about the names? Lisbeth did her research and found out that the names and passages were linked to murders all over Sweden that Harriet had strangely took an interest in.

Things began to progress between Mikael and Lisbeth not only professional, but also personally. Lisbeth was finding him tolerable, something that was only granted to people who really mattered like Miriam or Palmgren. They had sex and Lisbeth found that she enjoyed this intimacy. But their relationship had to be put on hold when things began to heat up in the investigation. They began to get warnings from some phantom individual - Mikael being shot at while investigating in the woods around Hedestad, the town that the Vanger family practically ran, the cat that came with Mikael's cottage ending up mutilated on their front porch in the form of a swastika, and other incidents. Lisbeth installed a security camera after that. They reached a culmination, however, when Lisbeth began to research the murders to locations in Sweden where Vanger factories had been set up. Through the connections, Lisbeth had come to the conclusion that Gottfriend Vanger, Henrik's brother and Harriet's father, committed these religiously-motivated murders. But there was one murder that troubled her. The murder of student Lena Andersson had been committed in 1967, two years after Gottfried drowned. After comparing the coat of arms on Lena's uniform to Martin's, Harriet's brother, in a photograph, it dawned on Lisbeth . Harriet's brother was a killer.

She went back home to Mikael's cottage on Hedestad to inform him, but she realized through his notes that he had discovered the link as well. Panicked, she searched the security footage and found Martin poking around their cottage. She quickly made her way to Martin's home on the island and saved Mikael from Martin, whom had tied him up in some kind of torture chamber and was about to gut him like a herring. She then chased after Martin after hitting him with a golf club, but before she could get to him, he crashed his car into a gas tank and died in the explosion. After everything settled down, they returned to the case that was Harriet. Convinced that Martin didn't kill her, he confided in Lisbeth that he knew where she was.

They traveled to London and confronted the woman whom had been masquerading as Harriet's cousin, Anita, for forty years. Harriet confessed to everything, including the murder of her own father after he had raped and beaten her. She returned to Sweden. Lisbeth then began to help Mikael with the Wennerstrom case. Their relationship continued, but there was a period of a month that they didn't meet. That was because Lisbeth traveled across Europe and emptied out Wennerstrom's funds, whose information she had hacked, and poured them into off-shore accounts. The seemingly desperate move by Wennerstrom and the allegations Mikael's book made eventually found Wennerstrom dead and Lisbeth back in Sweden. She soon began to realize, as Christmas rolled around, that she was falling for Mikael, a feeling that was foreign to her. The way he was so interested in her and looked at her made Lisbeth believe that he felt the same way. Who could blame her for thinking so? She's only 24.

She had bought him a Christmas present which was a luxurious motorcycle jacket. She was ready to deliver it to him when she spotted him leaving with his long-time lover and editor of his magazine, Erika Berger. The fact that he was still philandering with other women and didn't feel the same way about Lisbeth as she did him sent her into a destructive rage. She threw the present into the trash and took off on her motorbike.

Point in Canon: After Lisbeth drives off into the night after seeing Mikael and Erika together.

Character Personality: The most obvious thing about Lisbeth's personality is what an outsider would call her "stay the fuck away from me" attitude. Lisbeth is not very talkative, only giving one or few word answers if necessary. She also refuses to look anyone directly in the eye unless she needs to. The main thing about her personality and her actions is that everything must have a reason. She won't smile if unless she has to, she won't fight unless she has to - there are many other things she won't do unless she has to. She is also very distant. Lisbeth has very few friends - only people whom she would call associates. The only people she is closest to are Palmgren, Kalle Fucking Blomkvist, and Miriam Wu.

Despite her introvertedness, Lisbeth is very curious. If a problem is presented to her, she will work relentlessly on it until the problem is solved. She hates working with others, so her past work with Mikael was a rare instance in exchange for him keeping mum about her hacking abilities. Lisbeth has a penchant for mathematical problems and can easily plow through a mathematics textbook if given the chance. Her curiosity isn't limited to numbers or inanimate objects. As she witnessed with Mikael and with Mimmi, she's curious as to why they enjoy her company. She knows that she is difficult to deal with and different, but people's attraction to her has always thrown her off. It is the one problem she can't seem to solve.

But when someone does gain her trust such as the individuals mentioned above, Lisbeth is a very loyal person. She will protect them no matter what and will go to great lengths to please them - even though she calls the shots in the relationships. Lisbeth has actually fallen in love, but when her heart was broken, she has left all that mush behind. Now, if she were to ever feel that strongly about anyone, she would classify it as "caring" for them. But she highly doubts that will ever happen again.

The last thing to note about Lisbeth's personality is that she doesn't like to label herself. She doesn't voice this, but it is evident in the way she talks about certain subjects, if you ever got her to open up. One time her on-off girlfriend, Miriam, asked her if she was a lesbian. Lisbeth merely shrugged and thought to herself that she enjoyed sleeping with Mimmi and she enjoyed sleeping with Mikael. It wasn't a matter of whether she was lesbian, straight, or bisexual. Her clothing is the same way. By dressing all in black, people think she is part of the goth culture which is so far from the truth. Label her as any of these things and she will lash out, not wanting to be put in a category or tiny little box. She lives her life the way she wants.

Character Plans: I plan on having Lisbeth pretty much watching from afar. She'll be the thorn in everyone's side though hacking into things that are deemed hackable (unless the character has said so) and leaving everyone to wonder who is doing this. Maybe it's the companies? Who knows.

Appearance/PB: Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander

When Lisbeth had landed in the field, she immediately tried to make a run for it. All these strange people in white coats were around her and tried to detain her. She flailed and kicked until she'd been subdued with some kind of paralyitic. She was knocked out and awoke in a shitty little apartment with a headache. She found a laptop, a Mac Book, on a rickety desk and opened it. It opened up to her profile already installed and all of her other things she used at her computer in Stockholm on there. She was confused since she didn't have her computer with her when she zoomed away from--. Lisbeth slammed the laptop shut before going over to get her jacket. She slipped on her black combat boots, her right boot's sole being held together with duct tape. Lisbeth had to get the hell out of here and back to Stockholm.

It was dusk when Lisbeth found her way out of the apartment complex. As she walked, she watched the people who passed her carefully. They seemed normal enough. She passed a couple that spoke in English. Maybe she was in Norway or something. She couldn't have gone far, could she? No, she wasn't in Scandinavia. After living there for nearly her entire life and having been to London, Germany, and Switzerland briefly, she knew the subtlties Scandinavia had that identified as home. No, this was some place else. She passed more people that spoke English and not in British accents. No, they sounded.. American? Was she in the United States?

The panic that set into Lisbeth at the thought of being so far away from a place she knew didn't override her sudden hunger. She stopped into a little cafe and ordered a coffee and a sandwich. She was confused when both slices of bread were on top of each other. She merely separated them and ate them separately and drank her coffee. When she paid, with what little money she had in her pockets, and left, she noticed that the shop immediately closed. In fact, she'd been the last person to leave. There was no one on the streets as the sun finally dipped over the horizon. That was when she heard it - a caterwauling that sent panic racing through her again. The panic nearly made her throw up. What was going on? The wailing rang out throughout the city that suddenly had no people. The sun had finally set and night settled on the city.

Except this wasn't a normal night. The darkness that obscured Lisbeth's vision was unnatural. She started to realize that it began eating away at the building next to her. Brick began to chip off and the awning began to fray. That was when she heard it. A moaning over the whipping wind. Lisbeth turned her head quickly and once more fear gripped her heart. It looked like... a person but it wasn't. It's stomach was cut open and something unsightly came from it. It moved at a moderate pace and towards Lisbeth as well as this.. darkness. She knew she had to get out of the street and somewhere safe. But where? She didn't have time to think; she had to get out of here as the darkness covered her foot. Lisbeth pulled it out as if pulling her foot out of tar and ran.

As she ran down the street, more monsters came out. What the hell was this place? The darkness began to speed up. She had to find a place she could hide in, but all the places she passed were closed. Lisbeth turned down a street, but skidded to a stop and turned around when she saw the darkness rolling forward from it. Lisbeth ran back onto the main thoroughfair. She ran down farther until she finally saw a building that was lit up. Lisbeth didn't read what it was, but she immediately charged up the steps, taking two at a time and pounded on the door. A guard from behind two thick doors looked up at her. Lisbeth pounded harder on the glass, yelling at him. "Let me in you dumb fuck!" she shouted in her native language. The darkness was swimming up the steps and towards her. Finally, the door opened and she clamored inside. The door shut immediately afterward just as the darkness reached the place where she stood.

The darkness washed against the glass violently, as if angry that she'd gotten away. Then it moved away from the door like water, leaving no trace on the glass.
